Tips To Increase Sperm Count

pregnantIn an effort to become pregnant and do all that is possible to do so, many women forget that it takes two to tango!

When trying to get pregnant, a couple has to do all that is possible not only to increase a woman’s fertility, but also the man’s sperm count. There is much a man can do to make sure he is at his potent best:

  • Stop smoking and reduce alcohol intake
  • Keep ejaculations down to about 1 in 2 or 3 days, this tends to concentrate sperm count.
  • Keep cool. Avoid tight underwear; constricting clothing has been shown to impede sperm count increase. Anything that increases the temperature of the testicles has been seen to be detrimental: hot tubs, saunas, and of course tight clothing will all result in the temperature rising and sperm count falling.
  • Have intercourse in the morning; it is thought that sperm levels are highest during this time
  • Intake of zinc, either through food sources or through a supplement is advisable. Zinc is present in food such as meat, certain whole grain, oysters, nuts etc. Zinc is important because it is present in semen during ejaculation and is required to be replenished in the body.
  • Pumpkin and sunflower seeds are seen to help with increasing sperm count.
  • Vitamins C, E and B12 are also believed to help increase sperm count.
  • Be in the best health that you can be, and reduce fat levels in the body. Even excess fat in the groin region can raise temperatures there and impede the sperm count. Excess weight can also cause testosterone/estrogen imbalances. So exercise [pregnancy exercise] regularly and make sure that you are as fit as possible.
  • Exercise by all means but try and avoid bicycling and activities such as that since this could be constrictive and counterproductive for increasing sperm count.
  • Reduce stress, and improve relaxation techniques. You could give massage a try, this not only aids relaxation, it also improves blood circulation and thereby general health.
  • Drink plenty of water, to keep your system well hydrated.
  • Eat organic food. It is thought that the chemicals and pesticides present in non organic food is detrimental to sperm count. In any case eat as healthy as possible including, as far as possible, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.

Not only do good health and a healthy lifestyle impact sperm count positively, it also impacts sperm quality positively.

Sciatic Nerve Pain During Pregnancy

pregnancy exerciseThe sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in your body, running from your lower back across your buttock and down the back of your thigh and then around toward the front of your leg toward the sole of your foot.

During pregnancy, the combination of the baby’s weight and your shifting pelvic bones can put pressure on this nerve, causing intense pain.

There are several things you can do to minimize this pain. First, stay active; swimming is a good exercise when you suffer from sciatic nerve pain.

Second, try lying on the side opposite the pain to help relieve pressure. Do not stay in any one position too long, and if you must stand for longer periods, take frequent breaks.

Performing pelvic tilts can help get the weight of your uterus off of the sciatic nerve. To perform a pelvic tilt, get on your hands and knees on a firm surface. Your back should be parallel to the floor. Gently allow your stomach to sag toward the floor.

Then, tighten your buttock muscles as you tilt your pelvis up and arch your back. Repeat this exercise several times, working up to 40 repetitions as you become stronger.

Any muscle pain should always be brought to the attention of your care provider, especially if it is intense. While sciatic nerve pain is not harmful to you or the baby, severe muscle pain can signal the presence of a blood clot, which can be quite serious.
